Site Move?
July 23rd 2024
I'm considering moving the site to a new hosting service.
You're probably correctly thinking that this site is fairly new and wondering why I would be considering such a thing. Well, truth be told I've been steadily working on this site for months now, all by myself and up until very recently coded everything from scratch. It is labor intensive and time consuming to code website pages this way, but I have a clear vision of what I want and this was part of that.
For me, coding is an extension of my art. I think and feel the experience like I would any art piece, and a part of that is that I want full control. Writing html, css, and js for static website pages worked for me to achieve my vision which is why I heavily preferred it. It has to do with how I want the internet less commodified and more "weird" as well
That being said, I've been feeling cornered for awhile now. With Deviantart, Etsy, and now Dealer's Den as not viable options for selling through the pressure for me to have my own shop that I can do business through has increased exponentially. I don't rely on art as my full time income, but I do rely on it to fund anything that isn't a necessity for me to live which includes new artistic endeavors, and having that little push of income so I can do -anything- is important to my mental wellbeing.
If you didn't know, neocities only supports frontend development coding languages. That means websites on neocities have to have static pages
A shop, by comparison, relies on dynamic pages. The only viable workaround for this would be to create and host the dynamic thing you want somewhere else and then plug that into the static page of the site - this is how the comments of the site work. It is limiting in nature, especially when you want to control the appearance. Even though this is possible for an entire shop, it is not a realistic solution.
That means that to have a dynamic functioning shop I need to build it myself somewhere that can host dynamic pages (which would mean using different coding languages). I am currently looking into Infinity Free and it seems extremely promising. I'll be able to upload all the existing site pages as is so functionally nothing will change besides the actual site url.
I need time to do more research, set up the shop, and then move the current site pages over, but this move will be happening soonish. I will likely make the dauphinduegg.neocities.org url a redirect page so people don't get confused.
The biggest setback is I just had my business cards made and they'll all be outdated once the site move is complete as the website will be listed incorrectly/ Not to mention the business cards I handed out at Anthrocon. Hopefully, the new site indexes better and since this is all fairly young anyway that problem will naturally solve itself as people look up my name and see the new site pop up. We'll just have to see.
In more lighthearted nature I downloaded Goat Simulator 3 for the first time a few days ago and it is VERY entertaining. And low-key addicting. High-key.
Me deciding my goat's outfit (I'm the only person on the planet who will ever see it)
